What’s Trending Wednesday
If you were to pick one word that summarizes the trends for spring it would be: color. And we’re talking bold color. We’re seeing it at the home shows, on the runways of NYC fashion week, and even the Oscar gowns. If you’re not ready to make a change with paint, take a look at these colorful accessories that are an easy add to your existing decor. They are sure to be a great fit!

Everyone seemed to enjoy the photos of the home in Santa Barbara our design team worked on awhile back. So when we put the finishing touches on this design in Three Arch Bay, we made sure to snap a couple of camera phone shots to share with you. Click on over to our newly added portfolio page to see even more pictures of this home in Three Arch. We’ll be adding even more photos of designs we’ve worked on – past, present and future – which we hope will be great inspiration for your home. Keep an eye out and let us know what you think!
Tuvalu loves to support the local artists of Laguna Beach and Orange County. You’ll see that many of the items in our store, including jewelry, sculptures and housewares are handmade locally. We also try to regularly visit the local galleries, including Gallery McCollum, just north of our store on Pacific Coast Highway.
This weekend marks the start of the final exhibit for big-wave surfer and popular surf artist, Patrick Tobin, at Gallery McCollum. We love the vivid color palette and expressionistic brush strokes that bring such life to his work – a beautiful addition to beach houses or city lofts, alike. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Tuesday’s Tip From the Pros
Looking for something to make your basic bedroom a little more unique? Using large-scale, reclaimed architectural pieces as a headboard can make a bold and original statement in your bedroom. We’re loving how these rather plain rooms become spectacular with the addition of just a single item. Try a pair of antique barn doors or mirrored windows and rustic shutters with pops of bright color in their original paint.
Lucky for you, we’re bringing in some incredible pieces to Tuvalu over the next few weeks that would work wonderfully behind your bed – or in any room for that matter. Come on by and check them out!
One of the perks of working at Tuvalu is meeting all the interesting people who visit from all over the world. We get asked many times a day things like, Where’s the best place for a romantic dinner? Who has the best quick taco lunch? or Where can I get a really good latte? There are the obvious places to refer people to but sometimes it’s a hidden hideaway they’re looking for.
We could talk for hours about our favorite spots in Laguna but we decided to ask each employee which was their #1 favorite and we’ll share the secret with you! Let us know if we left one out… your secret’s safe with us!

Tuesday’s Tip from the Pros
At Tuvalu, we love finding unique and quality vintage or new-vintage pieces for you to add to your home. But how do you incorporate all these items in your home and still keep it looking fresh? Here are some good rules to go by to make sure your home looks less Grandma and more Glam-ma.
Now we don’t mean to gossip, but we can’t hold it in any longer! Did you hear? None other than Martha Stewart herself visited our store last week! Yup. Right here in little ol’ Laguna Beach.
We gracefully resided in star-struck awe for
mere moments. Ok, we held our breath till she left, all while helping her buy a few great items with the largest silly grin of pure happiness on our faces!
Martha and a female friend circled the store for quite a while, studying everything high and low. They both were nicely dressed and effortlessly coiffed, as Martha always seems to be. Surprisingly she even wore stilettos on their shopping trip – a modest height but a fun and fancy touch for business attire. Have we told you lately, Martha? You look gooood!!
They took photos here and there of the store and even posted about our Arte Italica and Sea Fan art on her blog. That’s right Tuvalu Home is featured on Martha’s blog! Well ok, we make a cameo appearance in photos 2 and 5. And she may only mention another store from down the street. But hey, we aren’t complaining – we got to meet Martha! And maybe someone over there reads our blog and will catch the omission? Maybe!?
Make sure see the pics of our store and to read more about her stay at the Montage on Martha’s blog.
But before you go, peek inside Martha’s shopping bag and see what she bought at Tuvalu in the pictures below!

Nailheads are a great way to add interest and detail to an otherwise plain room. Wheather you purchase a new piece of furniture or have them professionally attached to existing furniture or architecture they will quickly take your room from “bla-bla” to beautiful.
They come in all different sizes and finishes. We love them atop a colorful ribbon, spaced far apart or tightly together. Here are some of our favorite nailhead uses. Many similar styles are available in our store. Come on over and let’s chat about how we can help you add some nailheads to your home!

Fresh Flowers are a great way to add life and color to your home. We’d love to have weekly arrangements in our home but we don’t always have the time (or money) to stop at a boutique flower shop for something pre-arranged. And those grocery store bouquets… Let’s just say they somehow look worse when we plop them into a vase at home.
With Valentine’s Day coming up quickly, we’re crossing our fingers, hoping to receive flowers from that special someone! Here are a few quick tips to make sure your flower arrangements – Valentine’s or any other day – look spectacular in your home.

This Santa Barbara oceanfront home, complete with rooftop wine-barrel spa, was recently featured in Coastal Living magazine as a premier vacation rental for families. It so happens that Laurie, Wendy and our design team at Tuvalu did the interior design of this magnificent home. We think they did a spectacular job!
Take a look and let us know if your family would enjoy staying here. And don’t forget to invite us over for a glass of wine and appetizers when you stay there next!
