What’s Trending Wednesday

Color blocking has been a fun new trend in fashion this year. Bright colored pants mixed with bold blouses can bring life to your day, just in time for spring! And why not use this color cue from the runways to update your home?! Martha Stewart has a great feature in her May Living magazine about color blocking. Take a look at her inspriation photos…

Martha has picked Kelly Green, Lime and Cobalt Blue as the color palette here then added the gold flatware for extra sparkle. The key is to mix and match your pieces – alternate contrasting colors for the biggest effect.

Get the look of this color blocked bookcase with some paint and a little rearranging of your accessories. (Check out our post on styling your bookcase like a designer here.)

Creating this style in your home may be as simple as adding a few pillows in contrasting colors as they did in this beige and gold toned living room.

Tangarine – Pantone’s Color of 2012 – looks fresh and fun paired with Cherry Red, Blush and Peach colored pillows.

More literal translations of the trend, like this custom-made shower curtain, can also be super cute! A graphic art piece and mismatched Fuschia and Ruby Red bath towels bring the room together. Check out the online version of Martha’s Color Blocking article here.
