It’s always nice to come home after a long day and have a quick, easy place to set your stuff down. Let these tips help make your life and entryway better!
Get yourself a coat rack, this way you can toss your coat or scarf up onto it and to free yourself up a little bit. Put a side table or small bench in the entryway so you can set your purse, keys or what’s ever is in your hands down. The bench, or maybe a chair, will give you a place to take your shoes off or even unload any extras your lugging in. More importantly, you have a place for the kids to take off and store their shoes or other various things. This will hopefully cut back on the dirt and mess throughout the house that the kids somehow always manage to bring in.
Invest in a doormat or a tough indoor/outdoor rug in the entry. This will help with preventing messes which will save you in the long run. Another way to prevent clutter and mess is with an umbrella rack. During the wet season you won’t be tracking mud or water throughout your home. Plus you’ll have a place for your umbrella and you won’t have to go searching for it every time you’re running out the door.
Let your entryway help you! Putting a little time into your entry will leave you thanking yourself over and over. It will help organize your home and make your life easier. There’s no need for clutter by the front door, but most importantly there’s no need for that extra stress.
A striped rug in coastal home decor is like the sand to the beach. It’s a coastal home decor piece that will always be found in coastal homes, just like sand will always be found at the beach. No one will ever argue the fact that stripes are a part of coastal home decor. It’s a great design piece that’s versatility and flare has cemented it’s place in the coastal design style. Here are 3 reasons why we believe that:
1. Size Options
When it comes to rugs, size matters. Literally. You need to know the measurements of the space you plan on laying your rug down. An area rug is not going to fit in your hallway. An extreme example, but you get it. You need to know the length and size of the space for potential rug options. Is this a given for all rugs and not just striped rugs for coastal homes? Yes, we won’t argue that, but it’s a reason we had to touch on.
2. Pattern Play
The striped pattern is a classic pattern. Home decor is not the only place you will find stripes. It’s because the pattern invokes a sense of fun while having an affect on the eyes. Long lines can trick the eye into making it seem like a space is longer or wider. Use thin stripes to lead the eye throughout the space or lay down a striped rug with thicker, larger stripes to bring a full feel to the space. This is where the stripe pattern shines. It offers much more than just a quirky, playful pattern.
3. Color Choices
A blue and white striped rug is a coastal home essential. The strong blues paired with the creamy whites leaves an impression in homes. Blue and white hues are not the only colors that have an affect on a space. The striped rug helps colors make a lasting, striking statement in a coastal home. On the other end, striped rugs with subtle colors can achieve the exact opposite affect. They can compliment and blend into a space to add the finishing touches.
If you want visual proof we got that too. Check out some of these coastal homes that use striped rugs to their full potential in the space. If you’re in the market for a striped rug or two for your home, you can find a few in the Tuvalu Home Store.

Why limit yourself to one rug? Layering rugs is a great way to bring more color, texture and depth to the room. This decorating technique is a great way to bring the space together with a larger area rug and then anchor a specific spot in the room with a smaller rug.
Layering rugs usually consist of a sisal or jute rug as a bottom layer because of their natural, neutral tones that allow you to add a pattern or color on top of it. Is this the only way or bottom layer? Of course not, but it is a very common one that happens to look good as well. Once you lay down your base layer, a popular choice for the top layer rug is an animal hide rug, faux or real. Other popular choices, especially in coastal homes, consist of striped rugs and colorful patterned rugs.
It’s fun to combine other colors, patterns and textures while layering to create the look you want. It’s a great exercise to flex that creative muscle and maybe you’ll shock yourself with a great looking combination that you would have never even considered!

Winter introduces weather that is not only cold, but usually unforgiving. Typically ending in some kind of wet puddle, the last thing anyone wants is the outside weather inside their home. That means no exposed floors, tiled or not. Thankfully, there is a way to prevent such events from happening. Let us be the first, to say thank you to the rug.
Rugs become our best friends during the wet seasons. They give us a chance to stay ahead of the mess and possibly keep it contained. Right when you open the front door a rug is waiting for you to slip off those soaking wet shoes and leave the mess behind you. Needless to say, we aren’t buying those indoor/outdoor rugs just for their cute patterns. We are gladly cashing in on the practical purpose they serve as well.
There’s no secret tips, revelations or DIY winter hacks in this post. This post is strictly acknowledging the often walked all over accessory that saves our floors. Thank you, rugs. Don’t ever change.
