Tuesday Tips

Coastal kitchen with plenty of space and natural lightIt’s the season of the kitchen and we’re spending a good chunk of time in our beloved space. When we’re whirling around conducting a spiced filled symphony in our kitchens, we want to make sure all is in harmony and on cue. There’s no need to make your life more difficult, that’s why we’ve come up with these 3 quick tips to get your kitchen ready for the holidays. Get those aprons ready, heat up those ovens and get ready for the holiday season!

1. Cut The Clutter

If it doesn’t need to be in the kitchen get rid of it. Seriously, the last thing we need is to be tripping over things or frantically searching for counter space. The holidays are stressful enough, the last thing we need to add to it is mess and clutter.

2. Check The Kitchen Tools

Is everything good to go? Are those whisks still, well, whisky? Make sure the wine is ready while you’re at it. Do those pots and pans have another season in them? Are those mixers still mixing? Check and make sure everything you need is actually going to work. We don’t want a meltdown while that souffle is melting down.

3. Carry A Stockpile

We’re not saying you need all Costco this holiday season, but you definitely want to make sure you have plenty of goods. Running out mid-meal to grab ingredients is completely avoidable these holidays. Also the holidays are always faster and demand more time for everything. That being said, make sure you have some quick, healthy and easy meals ready to go.

Got all that ladies and gentlemen? There’s no reason these holidays shouldn’t go smooth and be successful. Tuvalu wants to help you guys out, but much more importantly, we want you guys to enjoy yourselves over the holidays. Happy cooking!Cozy coastal kitchenCountry style kitchen with a cozy feel Rustic inspired details in a kitchen

Bright, multicolored bar stools in the kitchenLet’s step up the color in the kitchen. Using color in the kitchen is a fun way to break up the normal neutral tones you normally see in the space. Usually there’s a good amount of white or some variation of stereotypical granite, so why not break it up?

Get a couple colors that pop out and say, “Hey! Look at me!” Bring that life and fun back to the space. Sometimes it’s as easy as throwing a quick coat of paint on the cabinets or grabbing a few eye-catching appliances. There’s no need to deck the entire kitchen out in color – unless you want to and we support you 100%! Check out some of these kitchens that are using color and get inspired!

Coastal kitchen with bistro style chair bar stoolsBecause a bar just isn’t complete without a bar stool. It’s like the classic PB&J. It doesn’t happen without the J. We can’t live in a world without complete and happy endings – it just isn’t right. Basically that’s why bar stools were invented. Okay, we can’t confirm that, but it’s the story we’re going with and we’re sticking to it.

Bar stools offer a lot to the look of a well designed kitchen and they actually serve a purpose. They give you place to plant your butt while you use that bar you had to have built into your kitchen island.

Another great advantage of the good ol’ bar stool is its ability to easily change the style or look of the kitchen. No remodeling or expensive projects involved, simply pick out your new stools and take out the old ones. Done and done.

:: 3 Ways To Accent Your Home With Color ::

Tuesday Tips

Beautiful Coastal living room with deep-blue accent painted wallsUsing color to accent walls and spaces is a great technique that anyone can use throughout their home. Step one is deciding what color you want to accent or highlight the space with. When you’re picking out the color there’s one main thing you need to consider, what do you want your accent color to accomplish? Do you want it to be bright? Do you want it compliment the color palette in a subtle way? Maybe you want something that does both? If you’re having a hard time deciding how to use color to accent, these 3 ways to accent your home with color will help. Each of the 3 ways to accent your home with color gives you design ideas and decor options to help you accent with color.

1. Accent A Wall

The easiest, and most effective way, to accent with color in your home is by painting a wall. It’s one wall with one color and you’re done. Painting can be a hassle, but thankfully it’s only one wall and not the entire room. This wall can be painted in a bright color to stand out or it can be used to add color while complimenting the space (pictured above).

2. Accent A Specific Section

If you want to get creative with color, try accenting a specific section of the space. For example, in the kitchen you can paint the island a different color to create an accent piece in the kitchen space (pictured above). Another way this has been done is by painting the inside of shelves. If it’s a built in shelf, for example, the inside area of the shelf can be painted a different color to create a more interesting accent style.

3. Accent With Accessories

The third way to accent with color does not involve painting. If you’re not handy with a brush, this is the option for you. Accent the space by decorating with accessories (pictured above). This is usually done by decorating on a neutral color palette in order for the accessory colors to pop. Hunting the pieces down can be a task, but it is all part of the fun that we call decorating. Also, don’t forget how easy the internet has made shopping for specific color palettes. Each item adds a fun pop of color that allows you to use colors to accent the space to your heart’s desire. Coastal cottage style kitchen with light blue and turquoise accent pieces Coastal living room with a bright yellow accent painted wall and accessoires to match
