Tuesday Tips

coffee-table-plant-0214-lgn-88151434Country Living has a great step-by-step guide on how to arrange a coffee table like the designers do and we had to share. They’ve created great visuals that are easy to follow and also provide wonderful explanations that will help you grow as a designer. We grabbed these photos off their site and use their words as well, you can see the original on Country Living’s website here.
coffee-table-tray-0214-lgn-33937640Step 1: Start with a tray.

“A piece that mimics the shape of your table helps organize items neatly and acts as a pretty layering element,” Sigala explains. Then, anchor the opposite corner with an oversize book to balance out the tray. Illustrated books invite laid-back perusing. coffee-table-lidded-boxes-0214-lgn-95491327Step 2: Zero in on the remaining corners.

Envision your table in quadrants and aim for rough symmetry along the diagonals. Here, a stack of smaller books that faces off with lidded boxes corralling necessary odds and ends: remotes, matches, cards, etc.coffee-table-glass-bottles-0214-aDXgpB-lgnStep 3: Just add personality.

“Set out things that will spark curiosity and conversation, like a collection of glass bottles,” advises Sigala. Plus, when you top stacks with an interesting object, “a large book or a pile becomes a pedestal,” she explains.coffee-table-organic-details-0214-lgn-15214054Step 4: Finish with organic details.

“Plants or flowers give life to any surface—literally!” says Sigala, who placed this orchid off-center for a casual look. One last thing: “Don’t overdo it—a coffee table should have plenty of space for cups of coffee!”

Tuesday Tips

country-living-aqua-breakfast-nookIf you haven’t picked up this month’s Country Living you’re truly missing out on a great design example. They take this beautiful breakfast nook and show you four different ways to design it. It really shows what a little color, a chair swap and a few accessories can do. They used the same mirror, same table, some white bench cushions and switched up and swapped out everything else. We just love how these covers are a visual guide and let you see exactly how easy it can be to revamp and revive any space with color. For those of you who are wanting to redo a space in your home use this as inspiration. It can be done! Get yourself some paint and hit the shops for some accessories!

Which cover is your favorite? Our favorite is the first cover. We love aqua, teal, greens and blues. They’re coastal and bright which gives the nook a great feeling. Then again, we really love the wall color on the third cover! They’re all so great! What’s Trending Wednesday

If you’ve picked up this month’s Country Living, or even been onto Pinterest once in the last week, you’ve seen plenty of pumpkins, Halloween decor and Halloween food. October is the start of the pumpkin season and we’re ready for some pumpkin pie! This Halloween season Country Living sparked the paint your pumpkin trend and it has taken off. They even had a contest for the Best Halloween Pumpkin. They’ve made Halloween a little less messy and a lot more creative. This way you don’t have to cut open the pumpkin and go through that whole ordeal. Also I don’t know about you, but my knife and pumpkin carving skills aren’t even close to as good as my painting skills. I’ll stick to the brush and paints. By painting the pumpkin it gives you so many more options and allows you to bring in more colors other than the typical black and orange. You can free hand paint on it, paint a pattern on it, or stencil a design on the pumpkin. This opens up so many different avenues for you to get creative. Don’t get us wrong though, we love the classic jack-o-lantern and the pumpkin seeds it yields. There’s no replacement for that, but why limit yourself there? Get creative and have fun this Halloween.

Feature Friday

Flipping through the October issue of Country Living we spotted these cloches. They labeled them bell jars, but technically they aren’t. Cloches have a smooth, round top and bell jars tend to have a small knob or handle like feature at the top of the jar so you can lift it up. For decor purposes though, they offer the same look and will look great in your home. You can fill them with coastal accessories like we did or just cover food with them. Either way a cloche with bring a new, fun decor twist to your home. Come on down to the shop and pick one up and take advantage of our sale that’s going on right now too! Can’t make it down to the store? That’s fine! Call us at (949) 497 – 3202 or email us at service@tuvaluhome.com, we’d love to talk to you and figure out a way to get you what you want. Happy Friday!
