With spring in full swing it’s time to bring some fresh greens inside! And by greens, we mean green plants!
Flowers always take the spotlight in the spring time and for good reason, but another way to decorate your home with some fresh spring green is to use plants. We’re talking leafy greens that pop out in the home! Plants can bring in a fresh breath of air into a home during spring. They’ll thrive in the home and add a bit of contrast to your home decor.
Don’t have that magical green thumb? Then good news for you! Most plants, and flowers, come in both real and fake versions. No shame in using a few fake plants. We understand that not everyone has the time or memory to keep up with them! Another route to explore is the use of succulents. These require little amounts of water so they’re easy to keep up!
Check out how these plants were used in these coastal homes. They have the right idea for spring and hopefully you will too!
Spring is right around the corner and it’s been heating up here in Southern California! The last couple of days have been nice and hopefully it’s been the same for your area as well. Looks like a quick day of rain, but then we’re back to the good weather!
Not sure about you, but we’re all ready to be outside in the sun. When the time comes, we want to maximize our patio with as much comfort and style as we can. That’s why we have 3 quick tips for your spring patio! Get your patio ready for the weather and sun with these tips!
1. Use Colors.
Don’t be afraid to use a little color outside! Sure the spring flowers show bring lots of color, but do the flowers match your interior’s color palette? Or do you want the outside to start a fresh, new palette for your patio space! There’s no need to shy away from colors! Let the hues jump out and shine like they’re meant to in spring!
2. Use Different Types of Materials.
The tip’s title pretty much says it all. Don’t limit yourself to only one type of material on your patio. There are a ton of natural materials that work great outdoors and even plenty of ‘indoor’ materials that work well outside in the weather. They just might need to be pulled in from time to time.
3. Use Plants & Flowers.
This one is a no brainer! Bring some lush, green plants onto the patio space and really feel surrounded by the outdoors. Like we mentioned above, the flowers are strangers to color so use them to brighten up your patio! Make them the standout decor in your patio space!

Color is a fun and easy way to bring personal style to any space. Unlike creating a mood with tones, color allows you to break up a space to make bright and bold statements. You can decorate with a pre-designed color palette, choose colors based on your favorite pattern, use color to accent or even just use color for the sake of using color. Basically, you can do anything and everything design-wise with color.
People will say that there is a way to design with color and there is a way not to. They might say that you should use color vertically and start with darker colors and hues on the floor and slowly transition to lighter color and hues the closer you get to the ceiling. They might say start with the front door and entryway s0 that you can color your way through the house to keep the color palette cohesive and consistent. They might tell you to stay away from this color with that color or that color with this color.
Want to know the cold hard truth about designing with color? Do whatever you want.
Pick whatever color(s) you want and start designing. Make as much or as little visual noise as you want! Picture your home as a coloring book, just add the color and complete the picture. Seriously, it’s really not that hard and no color is wrong. The best part about using color is you can always take some of it away. Trying to pair bright orange pillows on a dark blue sofa? Maybe opt out for white or light yellows to compliment. It’s all about playing and experimenting to figure what you like and want.
You might not get it right the first time and that’s okay. It really is part of the fun. The mixing and matching is all part of the game we love to call design. It will help you grow and understand yourself as well as design. And if you absolutely can’t get it right that’s what we have the pros like the Tuvalu Home Design Team for.
