Creating a custom color palette can be one of the best parts of designing. The colors let you bring any look, feel or style to a space. A color board will help you layout and show the colors you choose for your palette. Today we’ve created a color board to show you how to create your own. There are a few ways you can get started on your own color board.

One way to get your color board going is to base it off an already existing palette in order to build off of it or to use it as inspiration. Another way is to find a picture or image that has colors, or hues, and get your inspiration from that photo. You can pull the main colors from the photo and use them in your palette (which we plan on showing you next week).

For this week’s color board we picked an already working color palette to show you how to pull colors. This way you can see what colors are present, what colors catch your eye, what colors the designer snuck in and how the colors are used in the space. Some colors, like the reds and blue, are easily noticed and pop out at you. These colors pop because the designer set them with a neutral base giving them a stage to shine. This is a great use of color in the space which you can achieve by creating a color board. It will help you visualize the layout of your colors and see how they work with each other.

Don’t forget to have fun with your colors! Experimenting and mixing some unexpected colors can lead to something you’ll love!

Gallery walls are a great way to show off your art and photos. They also allow you to use your walls for design and to show off the things you love. Here are a few tips to creating a beautiful gallery wall:

1. Get meaningful art pieces and pictures to frame to make your gallery more personalized.
2. Pick out fun, interesting and unique frames; the art isn’t the only thing being displayed.
3. Decide if you want a color palette or not.
4. There isn’t a ‘right way’ to layout your gallery wall; there are no rules for displaying your pieces.
5. There are no limits on how many pieces or the sizes you can use.
6. Practice your gallery set up by laying it out on the floor.

Remember that a gallery wall is a direct expression of you, so don’t limit yourself! Show off your passions! Have fun putting your gallery wall together, but don’t forget to try new and different things to find your perfect layout!

We had a blast out in Atlanta at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market and found some great finds to bring home for everyone. We’re excited to have new stuff for you guys in the shop. We love finding new stuff for you guys to design your homes with, plus who doesn’t like new options? On our last day in Atlanta we decided to hit the antique shops and we all know how that goes. More finds and more stuff for you guys! And a little for us too; couldn’t help it. Last week we showed you 3 ways to make your kitchen look vintage. If you missed that post you can read it real quick here. Last week’s post focused more on some of the larger things you could change in your kitchen, like the island or your oven. This week’s ‘3 ways’ take a look at some of the smaller things you can change. Maybe a new fridge just isn’t in the budget right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still make your vintage kitchen happen. Let’s look at 3 more ways to make your kitchen look vintage.

1. Get Vintage Light Fixtures – Every kitchen needs light and one very easy way to bring vintage style to your kitchen is with your lighting fixtures. The first three pictures in this post show you some examples of ways to use light fixtures to your advantage both functionally and design wise.
2. Get Small Vintage Appliances – Small appliances will add little vintage details to your kitchen, plus they’re super cute. Details are everything, so don’t forget about them! There are plenty of new, vintage inspired small appliances out on the market, so there you shouldn’t have a problem finding some that fit perfect in your kitchen.
3. Get Open Shelves – Open shelves will allow you to create an open feeling in your kitchen and give you the ability to display your goods. You can use your open shelves to show off your vintage jars and bottles that contain your cooking ingredients and spices giving your kitchen more vintage details. Like we said before, those details are everything and will help bring an even better vintage look to the space.
